Abstract
1,025,359. Aircraft; seaplanes. LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Aug. 4, 1964, No. 31657/64. Headings B7A, B7G and B7W. An aircraft has a wing with an aspect ratio between one and four, with end plates depending from its lateral extremities to reduce the spanwise airflow. The aircraft is intended to fly close to the surface of the earth, and the end plates 26 are adjustable to maintain a predetermined gap below them, either by being pivotally mounted about a chordwise axis (Fig. 5, not shown), or by their each including an extension 26a (Fig. 4, not shown), movable by compressed gas acting on a flange fixed to it and slidable in a recess 56 in the wing: tip. The aircraft may have two buoyant hulls 12, 14, each having a water ski 74, 74a, hinged at.76, and preferably also a retractable undercarriage (Fig. 6, not shown), to render it amphibious. The hulls 12, 14 may be located at the wing tips to replace the end plates.
