[Class 4] An aircraft wing has the leading portion or a part of this leading portion or an additional portion mounted in front of the leading edge and conforming to it arranged to be capable of pivoting downwards about a point at or close to the leading edge or of the additional portion as the case may be. In one form, Fig. 1, a control surface A consists of an underpart of the leading edge part of a wing B and is adjustable into a position A<1>. In a modification Fig. 3, the surface A is nested on the underside of the wing and is shaped to continue the general contour of the leading edge part of the aerofoil. Fig. 4 shows a surface A arranged virtually to constitute an extension of wing B. Controlling surfaces such as described may be arranged in one or more parts on each wing and may be separately or conjointly controlled either to act as ailerons, as air brakes or as elevators, and may be operated in conjunction with ailerons or flaps at the trailing edge of the wing.
