Abstract
433,474. Aeroplanes. HILMY, S., 50, Church Street, Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt. Feb. 20, 1934, No. 5644. [Class 4] An aeroplane comprises a longitudinal lifting surface of narrow chord mounted above the fuselage in a position in which it is inclined upwardly from its rear end, means being provided for varying the size of the opening between the forward end of the lifting surface and the fuselage. Fig. 1 shows an aeroplane having a fuselage 1 and a main narrow chord plane 3 which is cut away at the near and as shown to permit air flow over a rudder 8. Plane 3 may be provided with one or more slots 14. Plane 3 is pivotally and slidably mounted at 10 and may be moved to and from a nested position on the upper surface of fuselage 1 by bell-cranks 4 operated by fluid pressure servomotor or other means. In the nested position the leading edge of plane 3 rests behind a fairing 11. In a modified form reciprocating supporting struts 4 may be used. The plane 3 may be of the same width as fuselage 1, may overlap the forward edge of the fuselage or may be extended laterally to obviate necessity for lateral stabilizing wings 7. Wings 7 may be differentially adjustable to act as ailerons. In another form, Fig. 3, plane 3 may be fixed, and the gap between its leading edge and the fuselage bridged by an adjustable flap 12. The features of the two constructions shown may be combined. Lateral wings 7 may be adapted to carry engines and loads.
