Abstract
644,206. Variable-camber wings. STALKER, E. A. Oct. 16, 1946, No. 30801. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1943. [Class 4] A variable - camber wing comprises leading and trailing edge flaps 11, 12 hinged to the underside of the wing at 13, 14 respectively, slots 27, 28 being formed between the flaps and upper wing surface for boundary layer suction by a blower 30. The purpose of the arrangement is to maintain a substantially uniform pressure over the major portion of the upper surface, as shown by the curve OBDF in Fig. 3. The rear flap 12 is provided with a slot 29 near its trailing edge and, when fully lowered, uncovers a further slot 31 in the upper wing surface. Movement of the flaps is effected by a pushpull rod 19 through links 15, 16.
