Abstract
687,424. Aircraft. OUSTER, W. R. May 24, 1950. No. 13009/50. Class 4. In an aircraft the propeller discs lie substantially in a transverse plane defined by the trailing edge of the wings, each of which has an inner portion in the shape of an upwardly opening channel extending in the direction of flight from the leading to the trailing edge, the trailing edge of the channel substantially coinciding with the lower half of the periphery of the propeller disc. In the embodiment shown each wing 11 comprises a channel portion 8 having side walls 9 which extend parallel to the fuselage 5 and are of aerofoil section as are spars 12, 13. An aileron 14 extends from the rear of each spar 12, 13 and serve as low-speed controlling means. Outboard ailerons 15 are provided for high-speed control. The distance between the disc of each propeller 18 and the after end of its corresponding channel is preferably less than one sixth of the disc diameter.
