An aircraft with immovable swept wings 2 has means for counteracting displacement of the aerodynamic centre on flying through the speed of sound or on altering the supersonic speed of flight, the means comprising front wing parts 3 mounted at the leading edges of the immovable wings, the parts 3 being displaceable in the plane of the wing or rotatable about a transverse axis 12, in which latter case the front wing parts are incorporated in a pivotable nose 11. Each part 3 when movable in the plane of the wing may be either bodily translatable parallel to the leading edge of the wing 2 or pivotable about a vertical axis 6 at the trailing end or at the leading end of the part 3. Various configurations of flaps 3 and wings 2 are shown.
