Abstract
660,558. Aerofoils; boundary layer control. STALKER, E. A. Oct. 16, 1946 [Feb. 19, 1941], No. 30798/46. Class 4. In order to promote laminar flow over a wing, the upper surface is formed of scalloped segments between which are formed spanwise-extending slots 2, Fig. 5, and 14. Fig. 8, the boundary layer being sucked through these slots by a blower 7. As shown in Fig. 5 the trailing edge portion of the wing may be formed by hinged segments 6 forming a high-lift flap. The width of the slots in the forward portion of the wing is less than that of those between the trailing edge flaps. Specifications 647,461 and 660,557 are referred to.
