Abstract
447,577. Folding-wings for aircraft. BLACKBURN AEROPLANE & MOTOR CO., Ltd., Seaplane Base, and BUMPUS, F. A., Elloughton, both in Brough, near Hull. May 29, 1935, No. 15630. [Class 4] A folding self-supporting cantilever aircraftwing, which may be folded against the fuselage, includes a stub wing a and a folding portion c hinged together by an obliquely inclined hinge b which is contained substantially within the wing contour, the stub wing surface abutting the wing surfaces c<1> being formed approximately as part of the surface of a cone or other solid of revolution. Forwardly of the hinge the junction of the wing portions a and c is arranged as shown. Locking-means may be provided for the wings when in their extended position and indicators show when the connection has been made. The abutting surfaces may depart from surfaces of revolution in which case they are arranged so that they recede from one another during folding. The surface c<3> may be undercut instead of the surface of the stub wing. Specification 239,971, [Class 4], is referred to.
