Fusclages; receptacles detachable from aircraft for freight.-The nose is hinged to the main part of the fuselage of an aeroplane to give access to a space for cargos, which may be packed in a container detachable as a complete unit. The engine and mechanic's room 4 may be either in the nose 3 or behind the cargo space 2. The pilot's seat is in the nose 3, which is hinged to the fuselage so that its hinge axis is vertical when the machine is resting on the ground. A container 6 may be mounted on trollies 7 running on rails 8 mounted in the fuselage 1 so that the greater part of the weight is transferred to the landing-carriage 11 or the wings 12 through a ring 10. Trunnions 9 may be provided (1) to enable the container to be balanced, (2) to fix the position of the container in the fuselage, which may be done by passing pins through holes in the ring 10 and the hollow trunnion 9, and (3) to transfer the load to the ring 10. According to one Provisional Specification, the nose 3 may be detachable. Propelling.-The propellers and engines may be carried by the hinged nose 3, Fig. 2, or may be at both sides of the fuselage behind the planes.
