[Class 4] An aeroplane 1 unprovided with alighting- gear is landed by connection during flight with one or more auxiliary aeroplanes, such as 2, 3, each provided with alighting - gear adequate to support the load of the principal aeroplane. The means of attachment during flight may comprise trailing ropes on the principal aeroplane and hook devices on the auxiliaries. The aeroplane may be launched by catapult or by use of the auxiliaries which are then detached after take-off. The latter craft may have excess engine power to assist the climb of the composite aircraft.
