Abstract
416,820. Aircraft with rotary wing systems. DORNIER, C., Friedrichshafen, Lake Constance, Germany. Nov. 30, 1933, No. 33638. Convention date, Feb. 16. [Class 4.] An aircraft comprises stationary wings 5 and an arrangement of rotatable wings which are adapted to be displaced so as to occupy a position parallel or approximately parallel to their supporting shaft, or to be displaced so as to occupy a superposed position, and to be withdrawn or retracted wholly or partly into the aircraft fuselage. In one form, the rotatable wings 7 articulated on a hub 9 may be folded through struts 10 by movement of a sleeve 11 lockable on the shaft 8 and the whole may then be retracted by hinging the shaft 8 about a pivot 12. A support 13 for the retracted wings is provided. In a modification, bracings 21, Fig. 3, are removed and the wings 18, 19 are rocked around the shaft 20 to assume a superposed position over the wing 17. The wings when superposed may be locked in a fore and aft direction.
