Abstract

965,999. Variable pitch marine propellers. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1963 [April 20, 1962], No. 7569/63. Heading B7V. A marine propeller has a hub 20 with a radially extending blade or blades each comprising a movable main element 10 having sharp leading and trailing edges and a fixed auxiliary element 12 having a sharp leading edge and a blunt trailing edge, the auxiliary element being adapted to nest with the main element to provide a composite blade having a sharp leading edge and a blunt trailing edge 14. Element 10, which constitutes the controllable pitch portion of the blade, is rotatably mounted in the hub 20 for movement about axis 18 in any suitable manner. The elements nest together in the high pitch position and are separated by a diverging slot 46 in the lower pitch positions.
