Abstract

569,167. Variable-pitch airscrews. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., WARDE, R. and KNIGHT, J. T. July 21, 1943, No. 11912. [Class 114] In a variable-pitch airscrew each blade shank 10 carries a circular plate 16 normal to, and having its centre on, the axis of rotation 18 of the blade, this plate lying within a circular aperture which is normal to the axis 18 and which is formed in an outwardly-bulged portion 22 of the spinner 12. The plate 16 may be flat or slightly convex outwardly, the bulged portion 22 may be formed integrally with, or separately from and secured to, the spinner 12, and the latter may be recessed slightly within its normal contour on the sides of the blades remote from its tip. The plate 16 may carry flexible sealing means to engage the edge of the aperture in the bulged portion 22. The plate 16 is secured by angles 30 to two clips 28 bolted onto the shank 10 bv bolts 26 which engage in shallow notches in, or beneath projections on, the shank.
