Abstract

201,787. Makenney, R. C. Aug. 25, 1922. Screw propellers.-Screw propeller blades with a large outer part and small inner part are constructed with inner pa.rt of 25 to 30 per cent less pitch than the outer, and with the driving face of the outer part flat and perpendicular to the boss, while the other face is convex. The inner part 10, of the blades B is narrower than the outer part 11 and is less in pitch by 25 to 30 per cent than the pitch at the base of the flat part. The outer part has a flat driving surface 13 set perpendicular to the boss A and a convex rear face, the leading and trailing edges being shaped off to a sharp cutting edge 14. The two parts merge into each other at a position about ¢ to 2/3 of the propeller diameter.
