Abstract

311,203. Valentinsen, V. Feb. 3, 1928. Screw propellers. - A screw propeller is constructed with the forward portion of the driving face having a pitch which is between 40 and 80 per cent of the forward motion in one revolution. The blades may be arranged also so that the rearward part of the surface has a pitch of between 90 and 130 per cent of the same movement. Also the chord joining the front and rear edges may be disposed with a pitch slightly less than the forward motion. If c, d represents the pitch due to the movement of the ship, the blade is disposed as indicated in section in Fig. 4.
