Abstract

427,190. Screw-propellers. MILLAR, A. L., 34, Westbourne Road, Barnsbury, London. Oct. 17, 1933, Nos. 28730/33 and 24238/34. [Class 114] A screw-propeller blade is developed from a flat figure having two straight sides 3, 4 and a convexly curved side 2, and in its screw form the latter is arranged to lie in a plane at right angles to the axis of rotation with the curved convex portion forward in the sense of rotation to form the leading edge 2, the trailing edge 3 remaining straight and being inclined outwardly from its root and forwardly in the direction of thrust. The blade sections have a straight driving surface 6 and straight rear surface 7 joined thereto by a curved edge 8, the thicker end being along the leading edge 2. The sweep of the leading edge is that of an involute spiral. The propeller may have one blade only.
