Abstract
459,096. Screw propellers. McCAULEY, E. G., 2901, West 3rd Street, Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A. April 6, 1936, No. 10129. [Class 114] A screw-propeller blade is formed with the median line of gravity at substantially one-third the width of the blade sections, and with this line in substantial coincidence with the longitudinal axis of the blade, the part forward of the median line being enclosed with convexly curved surfaces of varying thickness to constitute a tapering beam. The blade 26 is formed with a cylindrical root portion 58 upon which is a flange 56, and the leading and trailing edges 2, 3, together with the curvature of the two faces are such that the centres of gravity of the respective sections lie on a line YY substantially coincident with the longitudinal axis XX. The leading parts 68, 72 of the blade between the leading edge 7 and the axis 76 are formed with convex curves, whilst behind the axis the part 70 of one face 62 is concave and the part 74 of the other face 60 is continued as a convex surface.
