Abstract

388,827. Screw propellers. GRAY, J. C. and SELMAN, G. S., Caxton House, Westminster. May 23, 1932, No. 23674. [Class 114.] Screw propellers are provided with slotted blades wherein the slot passes from the driving to the following face and these slots are arranged so that the entrance side is substantially normal to the fluid pressure and that the leaving side is approximately tangential to the back surface and is characterized in that bridging-pieces 3 of streamline contour are provided to connect the parts of the blades divided at the slots. The slot 1 at the leading edge of the blade is preferably substantially parallel thereto and a slot intermediate of the blade is arranged approximately midway between the leading and rear edges. As an alternative the leading or nose portion of the blade may be formed separately from the main part of the blade but the slot between them is of the form described and connected by the streamline bridge-pieces.
