Abstract

460,513. Air-screws. FAIREY, C. R., and FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. April 4, 1936, No. 29341. Divided out of and addition to 457,823. [Class 114] In front of the leading edge of an airscrew blade and along the part near the boss a slot is provided for controlling the flow of fluid over the blade. A slat member e provided with brackets f is mounted in front of the leading edge b of a blade a, being secured thereto by screws. The slot between the two parts a and e may be straight or simple curved or compound curved. In place of a single slat member e a number of discontinuous slats may be substituted. The width of the slot at the front surface is from 5-12 per cent of the chord.
