Abstract

315,483. Wragg, C. A. April 18, 1923. Screw propellers. - A screw propeller having a main blade and an auxiliary blade is arranged so that the auxiliary blade is substantially parallel straightsided, and has its leading edge adjacent to the trailing edge of the main blade and parallel thereto. The blades may be mounted on a common hub or the auxiliary blade may be carried by the main blade, or the blades may be carried on separate bosses. Also more than one auxiliary blade may be fitted. The main blade section A, Fig. 1, has a flat auxiliary blade B disposed at its rear end. Alternative sections and dispositions are shown in the remainder of the Figure. For marine purposes the main blade A and auxiliary blade B7 may be mounted on separate bosses H, G, Fig. 3. For air screws the blades A, B may be mounted on a common boss as shown in Fig. 4, whilst Fig. 11 shows the main blade A10 carrying the auxiliary blade B on stream line braces E, to which they are fixed or pivotally attached.
