Abstract

302,755. Soc. Anon. des Ateliers d'Aviation L. Breguet, and Breguet, L. Oct. 14, 1927. Screw propellers.- Rigid air screws wherein the neutral line of the blades is displaced forwardly of the centre of thrust of the propeller are formed for this purpose with parts of the blade hollow or parts of the blade made of different substances whereof those of the highest modulus of elasticity are placed near the leading edge. The propeller is formed without a hub. The central portion of each blade is generated by a rectilinear generatrix, and the end of the blade consists of a cone whose axis is displaced rearwardly. In one form the propeller blade is made hollow at O<1> toward the rear edge whereby the centre of thrust lies between R2 and R1 in relation to the neutral line G. The thickness of the cross-section of the blade increases from the tip to the hub and the sections adjacent the hub have an approximately rectilinear shape with a flanged portion or lugs which may be bolted to the flange j of a hub that is secured to splines of a propeller shaft k.
