Abstract
255,126. Holbeach, M. G. Jan. 29, 1925. Screw propellers; rudders.-Counter propellers &c. are constructed with blades having the angles of the leading edge set at the angle of outflow from the main propeller to direct the flow axially, such angles being determined by a flow discharge indicator of the kind described in Specifications 255,125 and 255,507. A two-bladed ccunter-propeller 1, Fig. 1, is secured at 3 to the stern frame 2 of a ship behind the main propeller, the leading edges 6 being raked back from root to tip. Additional transverse blades may be secured to the boss 5. The counter propeller may be mounted on a stationary shaft 9, Fig. 7, housed in a hollow propeller shaft 10. For aircraft, the blades are secured to a fixed boss forming a fairing to the main boss. The rudder may be used as a twobladed counter propeller by twisting the upper and lower portions oppositely. The blades may be made solid or hollow.
