Abstract
139,028. Prendergast, R. S., and Prendergast, G. M. March 18, 1919. Screw propellers. - In propellers with thin narrow blades attached to an outer rim, the blades have a forward bend and are of aerofoil section, and the rim is preferably of streamline section, and formed in parts clipped together. The rocts of the blades are not in one plane in the boss. The boss may be replaced by a second inner rim supported from the shaft by spokes. The boss a is formed in two parts supported by arms and has slots at b<1> into which the inner ends of the blades b enter, these slots being staggered and partly on one half and partly on the other half of the boss. The blades are held in position by the means holding the halves of the boss, or each blade may have a screwed end and nut attachment. The angle of incidence of the blades decreases from root to tip, and the steel blades are bent forwardly and attached at b<2> to an outer rim c which may be of duralumin. Various forms of attachment are described, according as the rim is made in two parts or hollow. An extension casing g may be provided.
