567,978. Screw propellers. DAVIDSON & CO., Ltd., AGAR, A. A., and MACFARLANE, D. Sept. 2, 1943, No. 14366. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXVI] A hollow screw fan biade, increasing in width from tip to root, is formed of a number of sections of aerofoil form threaded on and welded to a pin L located so that the centres of gravity of the sections are so placed that the centrifugal force and the bending forces along the blades due to the air thrust are counterbalanced. The blades may be strengthened by internal ribs K, and may be mounted on the hub by means of a spigot S carrying a threaded bolt T and nut X. By loosening X, the blade may be angularly adjusted. In another form, a spigot on the base N of the blade is clamped between the two halves of the hub by means of transverse bolts. In another form, the sections of the blade are connected by a curved central longitudinal rib.
