Abstract
142,713. Gill, J. H. W. July 22,1919. Screw propellers.-The blades A of a propeller carry a casing C which is curved to give a progressive increase in velocity to the fluid. The blades are placed nearer the large end C<2> than the small end of the casing, the axial length being less than the propeller diameter and the opening C<1> is 0.8 times the smaller diameter of the propeller. The pitch of the blades may increase from the forward to the rear edge. The casing may be integral with the blades or attached thereto, in the former case, the boss B may be split. The edge C<2> may be enlarged with an outside bulb, and may be serrated. The after edge C<1> is fined off from the inside. The boss may have a faired extension B'.
