Abstract
228,072. Callahan, J. J. July 28, 1924. Screw propellers. - Each blade of a screw propeller is provided with walls forming a pocket which has an open side to receive the fluid and has one wall slotted throughout its length for the axis egress of the fluid. The blades 11, Figs. 1 and 3, is integral with a boss 10 and rim 17, and are formed with pockets 16 constituted by forward and rear walls 12, 13 connected by an arch 14, the rear wall being slotted at 15. Each blade is curved in the direction of rotation, is inclined rearwardly, and increases in breadth from root to tip In, a modification, the rear walls are part of a disc 18, Fig. 5, with slots 25, the pocket portion being completed by forward vanes 24, Fig. 8, and arch vanes 23. The disc 18 is a plane at right-angles to the axis of the shaft.
