Description

APatented Feb. 13, l923.
maar? ROTARY BLOWER.
Application lcd June 22,1920. Serial No. $550,889.
To all whom t mag/concern.' Be it known that I, BRUNO Sci-rammen, a citizen of the Republicof Poland, and resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Rotary Blowers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates t0 rotary blowers, vand has for its principal object the provision of yan efcient and novel device of this character which embodies means for projecting a continuous and even current of air of maximum force; a further object being to provide means for projecting the air in any one of several directions from a fixed housing or casing. i
ln carrying out my invention l employ scoop-shaped vanes of the general character disclosed in my Letters Patent No. 1,197 ,7 66, Sept. 12, 1916, for propelling device, but of improved contour, a' housing having lateral inlets for air, and a normally open peripheral outlet, and other novel features hereinafter fully described and specifically set forth in the annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figurel is a perspectiveview of one of the vanes forming part of my invention. Fig.' 2 is a side View of the blower; Fig.l 3 is an. edge view thereof; and Fig. 4 is a cross section of the vane taken on the line 1 -4 of Fig. 1. The propelling means for driving the 'air comprises a plurality of varies 1, of approximately scoop-shaped contour respectively embodying a back 2, ofl segmental curved contour having its convexity forward and its concavity rearward o-f its annular direc- `40 tion of traveL- (indicated by the arrow and having side wings 3 with edges that curve outwardly and forwardly and converge at their rearwardly extending outer or tip-end parts and extend from a straightline base part 5, which is fixed to and parallel with a shaft 7, said back 2 extending at its point of intersection with said shaft tangentially from the periphery thereof. The blades thus formed are of scoop-shape having sides projecting therefrom and broughtv to a point at each end, thecenter of the I trough of! the scoop` being forwardinv the direction of travel. i
The said shaft 7 is` journaledy thro-ugh bearings 8 which form part .of spider-like hangers 9, extended across the air-inlet openingslO of a housing 11 which is supported by a suitable base 172. j
One end of theshaft 7 is journaled through a standard 13, and'said end is provided with a pulley 11i adapted for engagement with a'suitable belt and motor-means for driving-the propeller, in the common and well known manner.. y f 4 The housing 11 has'a straight-line Hat upright sidesand a semi-circular peripheryfor snugly encasing the propeller ing therewith.
As a means for ejecting air. lprovide a cylindrical nozzle 16. c j i In the operation and use'of the invention the propeller isgiven rapid rotary movei ment by means of its pulley 14 and' any suitand cooperatable motor-actuated means for rotating said pulley; this movement draws air through the lateral openings of the sides of the housing and ejects it through the opening 15 of ,j
the nozzle 16, andowingv to the peculiar shape of `the propeller blades friction is attained. i
Having thus described minimized and a maximum ofefiiciency is my, invention, what I claim as new and desire to Secure by Let-v l ters Patent, is n 1. In la device of the class described a rotary blower having vanes comprising-a back with a relatively. wide base, a rear- ,wardly extending contracted tip and'sides projecting therefrom so as to be of scoop-` l shape, the central part of the troughof the scoopvbeing forward in the direction of rotation and the contour ofthe faces of the sides thereof being approximately shape of a crescent.
2. ln a device of the class described, al
`in the rotary-blower having vanes comprisingk a back with a relatively wide base, a rearwardly extended contracted tip and sides projecting therefrom and brought approximately to Va point at eachend thereof, so as central part of the trough of the scoop being `10 forward in the direction of rotation and the contour of the faces of the sides thereof heing approximately in the shape of a crescent. Signed at the city of New York, in the county of New York land State of N. Y., this 27 day of May, A. D. 1920.
