Abstract

427,493. Screw propellers. UNISLIP PROPELLER CO., Ltd., and KARI, A., Milburn House, Dean Street, Newcastle-on- Tyne. Oct. 25, 1933, No. 29601. [Class 114] A screw propeller has each of its blades associated with a reaction blade or blades in spaced relation therewith such blades being placed so that they overlap the following edges of the primary blades by at least one - tenth of the width of the primary blade and the following edges of the reaction blade extend to the rear of the following edges of the primary blades. The blades a of a screw propeller carry reaction blades b of which the forward edge h overlaps the blade a by at least one-tenth of the width j, k, and the after edge m overlaps the after edge j, the blades b being supported on the blade a by bridge pieces e with or without an attachment to the boss and to the tip d of the main blades. The blades b may merge into the primary blades a near the tips. Both the primary and reaction blades may be provided with a variation in pitch in at least one direction and as shown the pitch is at minimum near the boss and increases out to the section at two-thirds of the radius. The driving face of each primary blade may be fined or tapered away at its leading edge k. Blades b may be mounted on a separate boss from that carrying the blades a, the bosses being rigidly connected together by screws, bolts, rivets, welding, or otherwise.
