Screw propellers.-Screw propeller blades are constructed with an increasing pitch from tip to root on the suction face, with blades of widths equal to the clearance between the adjacent blades at corresponding radii, with the suction pitch equal to a constant pitch multiplied by the secant of the angle of inclination at each radial distance, and with the pressure pitch equal to the suction pitch multiplied by the secant of its angle, of inclination. The pitch of the blade section 12 at the tip is equal to the distance C between adjacent blades. V represents the pitch of propeller advance, P the pitch of the suction face and P<1> the pitch of the pressure face and P = R Î V ¸ (R<2>-V<2>)¢whilst P<1> = RÎP ¸ (R<2>-P<2>)¢ for a given section at radial distance R.
