489,293. Rotary propellers. DURIS, M., LA VALDENE, COMTE DE GAILLARD DE, and WILLIAMS, K. H. Jan. 22, 1937, No. 1976. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1936. [Classes 4 and 114] A propelling rotor 1 for ships, aircraft, and motor cars comprises a cambered disc 1a with a rim 1b of aerofoil section and inclined to the shaft. This disc and periphery are mounted on a shaft 4 adjacent to a curved surface A.C. on the vehicle to be driven, such surface also having a cambered form and being set at an angle to produce a forward reaction from the fluid driven by the rotor. The rim 1b carries blades 2 which may be either plain or curved and are set at an angle of 45‹ to a radius. For the purpose of increasing the reaction, the disc may carry director vanes 6 and the main body may carry director vanes or rims 7.
