Screw propellers.-In a screw propeller the width and geometrical pitch are greatest at the hub and the pitch and width diminish toward the middle of the blade, whilst from the middle towards the tip the width is maintained constant and the pitch decreased or the width is decreased and the pitch increased. Where alternate long and short blades are employed the width is distributed between them as far as the middle of the long blade is concerned.
