Abstract
538,385. Airscrews. HILLS & SONS, Ltd., F., and CHOWN, W. R. Jan. 30, 1940, No. 1873. [Class 114] In a non-metallic airscrew or airscrew blade provided with an intermediate metal support which is secured and sealed to the body of the blade and to which a sheet metal protective sheath is soldered or similarly secured so as to cover the attachment means for the metal support and provide a sealed space under the sheath, the latter and the support are both in two or more sections, each section of the intermediate support including one or more end bridge pieces extending over the edge of the blade and providing sealing for the end as well as for the longitudinal edges of the sheath sections. In the form shown the wooden blade a is fitted with metal gauze f embedded in adhesive g over which are secured, by screws, pins, or the like d, the sections of the intermediate support, each consisting of longitudinal strips b and end bridge pieces c corresponding to the sections e, e' of the metal sheath. The end bridge pieces c may be integral with or separate from the longitudinal strips b, and there may also be further intermediate bridge pieces and/or longitudinal strips.
