Abstract

432,931. Screw propellers. LYMAN, W. H., 915, Clarkson Street, Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. Aug. 3, 1934, No. 22685. [Class 114] The blades 11 of a screw propeller are formed with leading edges 13 which start from the boss at the position farther from the axis than the trailing edges 14. These leading edges are continued by an eccentric portion 15 struck from the centre C to join the trailing edge of the opposite blade. The section at the leading edge is blunt and provided with a flange 16 on its forward face and there is a similar section along the edge 15. The bead 16 is slightly undercut to form a groove 17 at its rear. The blade section is thickest at the centre and then thins toward the trailing flange 19 in the front of which there is a curve 20. The bead 16 and flange 19 preferably increase in dimensions from the tip toward the root.
