Abstract

459,206. Screw propellers. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Hartzell Industries, Inc. ; Roosevelt Avenue. Piqua, Ohio, U.S.A.) June 5, 1936, No. 15808. [Class 114] A screw-propeller blade is formed with the outer half of its leading edge 14 as a swept back curve to the tip 18 at about 45‹ to the radial line 17. The trailing edge 20 is doubly curved and the general shape of the blade is similar to that of a bird's wing. The blade sections are of aerofoil type and of decreasing angles of attack from root to tip. The chord length contres lie on a line 21 which is swept back throughout at least the outer half of the blade length. The length of the blade is about equal to three times the maximum chord length.
