Abstract

1510554 Aircraft undercarriages BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 31 March 1976 [4 April 1975] 14020/75 Heading B7G On landing, pivoting of a bogie beam 5 about its connection 4 with a shock absorber leg 1, due to contact of a rear wheel or wheel pair 7 with the ground, is arrested when a further shock absorber 8 is fully extended as shown, and the beam 5 then pivots about its connection 12 with the shock absorber 8, compressing the leg 1 until a forward wheel or wheel pair 6 touches down. The leg 1 has an oil-filled compartment 17 and a part oil, part air-filled compartment 16, the aperture 14 between them being controlled by a pin 15 of suitably varied crosssection. The shock absorber 8 is oil filled and has a valve 19 to allow freer contraction than expansion. A jack (not shown) initially tilts the beam 5 into the rearward-wheel-down position.
