Abstract

357,824. Hub brakes. PERRY & CO., Ltd. and BAYLISS, J. B., 36, Lancaster Street, Birmingham. Oct. 28, 1930, No. 32287. [Class 103 (i).] In cycle hub brakes of the type in which shoes pivoted upon a fixed anchor plate are adapted to be expanded into frictional engagement with a drum on the hub by means of a cam actuated by an external lever arm and a Bowden wire control, the Bowden wire control is adapted to be readily detached, to enable the wheel to be removed without disturbing, the control adjustment, by mounting the adjusting-sleeve 18, which carries the adjusting- nut 19, in a plain hole in a lug 22 projecting from the outer face of the anchor plate 3, so that it can be withdrawn by an axial sliding movement, the lug 22 forming an abutment for the adjusting-nut 19, and the end of the inner wire 24 being detachably connected to the cam-operating arm 16. The lug 22 is integral with the anchor plate 3, which has an integral anchoring-arm 10 for attachment to the fork and an integral bearing-sleeve or boss 15 for the cam shaft 14. The end of the inner wire 24 carries a head 25 adapted detachably to engage a slot 27 in the closed end of a U-shaped yoke 26 pivoted to the arm 16. The anchor plate 3 is provided on its inner face with an integral annular flange surrounding the bearing cup at the end of the hub spindle and within the brake drum, so as to form a compartment for receiving excess oil from the bearing and prevent it reaching the brake shoes, the excess oil escaping by a hole 32 through the plate 3.
