360,787. Hand-brake levers. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd., 88, Regent Street, London.-(Assignees of Sheldrick, L. S. ; 2509, Hazelwood Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) March 17, 1931, No. 8150. Convention date, April 23, 1930. [Class 103 (i).] A brake lever 30 is formed from sheet metal bent to form a tube which encloses the ratchet operating rod 29. The metal is stamped to form a bifurcated end, forming a pair of arms 20 on which the lever is mounted. Embossed portions 21 stiffen the arms 20. The lever is pivoted on a bolt 23 supported on a plate 16 which is straddled by the arms 20. The ratchetoperating rod 29 is connected to the panel 27 which is pivoted at 26 on the lever and engages ratchet teeth 18 formed on the bottom of the plate 16. The brake-rod 28 is connected to the lever at 36 or may be provided with a clevis which is attached directly to the pin 26. A cap 35 spun over a flange at the top of the lever guides a button 33 on the top of the rod 29. A flanged cup 32 held in place by the flange 35 contains a spring 34 urging the button 33, rod 29, and ratchet 27 upwardly. The plate 16 is mounted by means of screws 17 on the gearbox.
