[Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] To prevent interference with the operation of the brakes of vehicle wheels that are mounted on levers, due to movement of the wheels and levers, the brake shoes expanding device is operated by a pin slidable coaxially within the hub of the lever or of one of the levers. A motor cycle front wheel mounting is shown in which the wheel spindle b is mounted on levers c, c<SP>1</SP> pivoted to the ends d of the wheel fork by a bush c<SP>4</SP> on a hub c<SP>3</SP> secured to and bridging an aperture c<SP>2</SP> in the levers. Movement of the levers is restricted by torsion units of the kind described in Specifications 363,039, [Group XXXII], and 521,258 and each comprising a rubber disc e<SP>1</SP> bonded to the base of a cup-shaped member e<SP>4</SP> bolted by a lip e<SP>6</SP> to the fork and bonded also to a plate e<SP>3</SP> keyed to the lever. Rubber buffers constructed as described in Specification 503,341, of which one is shown at f, are mounted above and below each lever to restrict the movement thereof. The brake anchor plate a<SP>3</SP> mounted on the spindle b is prevented from rotation by a boss a<SP>4</SP> thereon embracing the hub c<SP>3</SP> against the end of which it is retained by a flange on the boss. The brake shoe expander comprises a plunger k slidable in a housing k<SP>1</SP> and it is operated by a pin g slidable in the hub c<SP>3</SP> by the action of a bell-crank h pivoted at h<SP>1</SP> to the part d<SP>1</SP> of the forks. The lever h is operated by a rod or cable j<SP>1</SP>. A brake shoe adjuster b<SP>1</SP> is provided. To remove the wheel, the nuts n are released to permit lowering of the spindle out of the bifurcated ends of the levers, the boss a' being then disengaged from the hub c<SP>3</SP>. A casing o may be provided for a gear wheel o<SP>1</SP> secured to the wheel hub a and meshing with a wheel o<SP>2</SP> mounted in the hub of the lever c<SP>1</SP> and driving a speedometer. Where the pin g and plunger k are parallel to each other instead of being coaxial, movement may be transmitted from one to the other by a rocker or lever mounted on the lever c.
