357,049. Transformers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., Columbia House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Burton, E. T. ; 97, Cypress Street, Millburn, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Jan. 23, 1931, No. 2337. Convention date, June 6, 1930. [Class 38 (ii).] An impulse transformer or induction coil has a number of core sections of different cross section or permeability or both a primary winding 26 on a section 21 of low permeability or large cross section or both, and a secondary 28 on a section 22 of high permeability or small cross section or both so that the output voltage of the secondary winding consists of short sharp impulses separated by relatively long zero intervals. A biasing winding 25 may be used to control the amplitude of the primary current required to produce saturation or unsaturation of a part of the magnetic circuit, and a " bucking " winding 29 in opposed series with the primary may also be provided. The magnetic material of the core may be protected from injury or displacement as by enclosure in an insulating covering. A single primary may be used on a suitable core, Fig. 2 (not shown), in conjunction with two biasing and two secondary windings to form, in effect, two transformers.
