Regulating transformers.-In a circulating- current protective system for transformers or other electrical apparatus, in which current transformers with balanced secondary currents are placed on each side of the apparatus to be protected, the core cross-sections of the current transformers are made inversely proportional to the respective primary ampere turns under working conditions. The effective lengths of the magnetic circuits are made directly proportional to the primary ampere turns by providing one or more air gaps in the magnetic circuits. In the construction shown, the transformer core has an adjustable main air gap 2 and smaller gaps 3. The primary and secondary windings 8, 9 surround the main gap 2 in order to shield it from external influences. In a modification, the single main gap is replaced by a number of short gaps.
