Abstract

Transformers. - Relates to current transformers and consists in an arrangement for eliminating the effect of magnetizing current so as to obtain proportionality between the primary current and the current in the circuit of the measuring instrument. The arrangement comprises a main transformer unit having a primary winding 2 and secondary winding 4, and an auxiliary transformer unit having a primary winding 3 and secondary winding 5. The two secondaries are connected in series and are connected to an auxiliary load 7 comprising reactance and resistance. The measuring instrument 6 is connected across the main secondary winding 4 so that the current through the instrument is equal to the difference between the currents in the two secondary windings. By suitably dimensioning the iron in the two cores and the characteristics of the load 7, the arrangement is made such that the magnetizing currents in the two transformer units when considered in terms of secondary current are equal and neutralize each other in the circuit of the measuring instrument. The two cores may be combined in the form of a three limbed core having one primary and two secondary windings, and a tertiary winding may be employed instead of direct connection for effecting subtraction of the secondary currents.
