Abstract
514,890. Current transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 13, 1938, No. 11404. Convention date, April 16, 1937. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In a D.C. measuring transformer comprising a pair of saturable cores. 1, 2 linked by a conductor 8 carrying the current to be measured and by a pair of series-connected windings 3 energized from an A.C. source U and connected in series with the measuring instrument Z, the cores are made of a material, such as a nickeliron alloy, the characteristic curve of which has a sharp saturation bend so that for all values of D.C. which cause saturation of the cores the current in the A.C. circuit. is 'caused to be substantially proportional to the D.C. To enable a D.C. measuring instrument to be employed, a full-wave rectifier may be included in the A.C. circuit, the measuring instrument being connected across its D.C. terminals, Fig. 1b (not shown). The A.C. windings may be subdivided into parallel-connected parts uniformly distributed round the cores, or equivalent arrangements of compensating windings may be employed. Specifications 399,611 and 460,708 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 460,708.
