Transformers.-A current transformer has its apparent internal resistance made to vary with the primary current so that the magnetizing current is proportional to the primary current and discrepancies between the primary and secondary current can be rendered constant or eliminated. The primary conductor a of a current transformer passes through two identical cores b, c, the secondary winding d on the core c comprising fewer turns than the winding e on the core b with which it is in series, the apparent resistance of the windings being great as compared with that of the external secondary load. The secondary current will be of such a magnitude that the secondary ampere turns affecting the core b will be greater than the primary ampere turns, the opposite being the case as regards the core c, so that the core b will act as an inductive load upon the core c, its apparent resistance varying with variations in the primary current.
