[Class 38 (ii)] In a three - phase transformer or choking- coil with isolated neutral, voltage oscillation of the neutral point due to incoming surges is damped by providing on the core an open delta winding 5 closed through a resistance 6. The invention may be applied to transformers or chokes with windings in star, zig-zag, or star-ziz-zag on a common or three separate cores, and in the case of a transformer in which one of the main windings is delta-connected, the auxiliary open-delta winding may. be disposed in the space between the two main windings and may be embedded in an insulating cylinder, Fig. 5 (not shown). The auxiliary winding may, however, be in the form of a flat metal strip laid directly on the turns of the main winding.
