Abstract
495,235. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31908. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1936. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to a transformer for high voltages and a variable capacitative load, more particularly a testing transformer and consists in providing air gaps in the wound limb of the transformer core with means for varying the reluctance of the gaps so as to enable the inductance of the transformer to be adjusted to balance the capacity, In the form shown in Fig. 1, separate adjustable bridge pieces e<1>, e<2>, e<3> adjustable lengthwise of the core or a single bridge piece e<4> adjustable laterally of the core may be provided. In a modification, the bridge piece e<4>, Fig. 2, is provided with auxiliary windings which can be short circuited either directly or through resistances, the bridge piece being adjustable if desired. In a modification of this the bridge e<4> may form part of the core structure.
