[Class 38 (ii)] In a high leakage reactance auto-transformer having a winding in two or more parts separated by a leakage bridge, the point of connection between the winding parts is arranged to be intermediate the supply circuit connections. This is stated to give an increased range of voltage variation between no-load and fullload. In the form shown in Fig. 4, giving an output voltage lower than the supply voltage, the main winding part between u and v is tapped at M to which the further winding part is connected. In a modification of this, a balanced arrangement is obtained by providing two winding parts which are connected to symmetrically arranged tappings on the main winding part. An arrangement giving a voltage greater than the supply voltage is shown in Fig. 6 in which the supply lead u is connected to a tapping on the part winding. Alternatively, the main winding is connected to the tapping on the part winding and the supply lead u is connected to the lower end of the part winding. Each of these arrangements may be provided with a further symmetrically connected part winding.
