Abstract

Thioindigo series.-A stable reduction product, having properties similar to those of the products of the parent Specification, is obtained by treating 4 : 7 : 41 : 71 - tetramethyl - 5 : 51 - dichlorthioindigo with an alkali and a reducing agent other than a hydrosulphide, and causing an acid, such as carbonic acid or sulphurous acid, to act on the solution thus obtained. The reduction process is facilitated by the addition of an alcohol, such as ethyl alcohol. In an example, the dyestuff is reduced with sodium hydrosulphite solution and caustic soda in the presence of alcohol, and carbon dioxide is introduced into the solution in order to separate the reduction compound. Specification 6490/07, [Class 2, Acids and salts, Organic &c.], is referred to.
