Abstract

Dibenzthiazyl-disulphide is prepared by treating 2-mercaptobenzthiazole at ordinary temperature and without the supply of external heat with aqueous nitric acid of a concentration of at least 7 per cent. Acid of 7--20 per cent strength is suitable and advantageously to reduce foaming the operation is carried out under a slight excess pressure. An example is given wherein a product of high purity is obtained with only a theoretical consumption of nitric acid. U.S.A. Specification 1,880,421 is referred to.
