Abstract
Hydroxy-indazoles, particularly 6-hydroxyindazole, are prepared by heating the corresponding amino-indazole with dilute sulphuric acid under pressure at a temperature between 150 DEG and 210 DEG C. Novel hydroxy-indazoles mentioned include 4-, 5-, and 7-hydroxyindazoles, and 4-, 5-, 6-and 7-hydroxy-indazoles, when further substituted by methyl groups. In examples: (1) 6-amino-indazole is heated at 175 DEG C. with 10 per cent sulphuric acid in an autoclave, neutralized with caustic soda, when 6-hydroxy-indazole separates; (2) 5-aminoindazole is treated as in (1), and 5-hydroxyindazole separates upon the addition of salt to the neutralized solution.
