Abstract

Tetrahydrindazolones for use in the production of analgesics are prepared by the reaction at a raised temperature of a cyclohexanone-o-carboxylic ester with hydrazine or phenylhydrazine formed in situ in an aqueous suspension from a salt thereof. Alkali may be added in aqueous solution to the heated mixture of hydrazine salt, water and cyclohexanone-o-carboxylic acid ester, or the cyclohexanone-o-carboxylic ester may be added to the aqueous mixture of alkali and hydrazine salt, and the temperature thereafter raised. In examples: (1) cyclohexanone-o-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is added to an aqueous solution of phenyl hydrazine sulphate, the temperature is raised to 90-100 DEG C., aqueous alkali is added and the 1-phenyltetrahydrindazolone is crystallised out; (2) cyclohexanone-o-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is added to an aqueous solution of hydrazine sulphate and caustic soda which is then heated to 90-100 DEG C.
